From the Rector: Putting Mercy into Action

Putting Mercy into Action

As you are all well aware, we are celebrating the Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis. We have thus far emphasized the opportunities for experiencing God’s mercy by means of the indulgences attached to the Holy Doors, the celebration of the Divine Mercy, the extra times for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and so forth.

We are now turning our focus to the ways in which we can exercise the Corporal and Spiritual works of Mercy. After prayer, reflection, and discussion, we have decided that one way in which we as a parish can very easily participate is in the feeding of the poor in our community.

If we all make it an ordinary part of our Sunday worship to contribute canned or dry goods as we enter the Church, we would be able to provide a steady channel of relief to our brothers and sisters in need. The local food pantry, as well as other local institutions that rely on donations to assist the poor will be the recipients. Beginning on the weekend of April 30th through May 1st, we will place collection bins near the vestibule doors at the main entrance of the Church.

The food pantry has told us that canned and non perishable dry goods are best, but also canned goods for the homeless that do not need cooking preparation are needed.

Please consider and let us know of other ideas and means of putting Mercy into action that you would be willing to organize and coordinate.

God Bless you!
Fr Keller
